My dissertation and prospective book project, “Transferred Debt: Balancing Crime, Punishment, and Budgets through Legal Financial Obligations,” explores the political origins and implementation of fines and fees in municipal courts. My other projects investigate penal organizations (police, courts, and prisons) and the impact of their structures, policies, and practices on social inequality. For more on these projects, see my CV or follow my Google Scholar profile page.
I have received support from the Russell Sage Foundation Dissertation Research Grant, New York State Archives Hackman Residency Program, CUNY’s B. Altman Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, and CUNY’s Knickerbocker Award for Archival Research.
